TRAILAR Completes Successful Management Buy-Out from DPDHL Group

TRAILAR Owners Dave Darlington, Denny Hulme, Aaron Thomas & Andrew German

Today marks a very special day for the TRAILAR team. We are proud to announce the successful completion of a management buyout of TRAILAR Ltd from Deutsche Post DHL Group. As DPDHL Group continues to focus on its core business, the decision was reached to spin off the business in an MBO. DHL continues to use TRAILAR's innovative solar-powered solution in its fleets of vehicles across the world.

The story

TRAILAR emerged from a spark of creativity by our co-founders Aaron Thomas and Denny Hulme five years ago. The idea that putting solar on trucks could save fuel was put forward during a DHL Management Development Program. The innovation was developed into a business case within 'Start-Up Lab' - DPDHL Group’s corporate incubation program - and in 2018 funding was provided by the Group to set up TRAILAR as a standalone business. Today, we employ over 40 people, offer a portfolio of seven different solar solutions that can be installed on trucks, trailers, buses and even waste collection vehicles, and our solutions are decarbonising vehicle fleets across the world. The MBO is a huge opportunity for the management team to drive the business forward and continue its mission to create more efficient, more sustainable transport, through the use of solar and IoT technology.

“This is an exciting time for everyone involved and a major step forward for the company. Building on solid foundations, this new chapter for TRAILAR will allow us to continue to be the best at what we do and provide the global transport sector with industry leading technology”

Aaron Thomas, Co-Founder & Managing Director
